OLPH Football teams blast St. Anthony's!

The Cougar flag football teams got off to a great start this year as the varsity team blasted St. Anthony’s Gold 39 – 6, while our JV Cougars handled St. Anthony’s JV squad 19 – 8!

In the Varsity game, OLPH was leading early and never looked back.

The defense was the story in this game as the Cougars picked off six passes and returned three for touchdowns. Brett Jones, Alex Mendoza (two INTs), and Daniel Flores each returned interceptions for touchdowns. Nathan Madrigal and CJ Dodd also had interceptions. Nathan got the offense started by scoring on a 40 yard reverse and catching the two point conversion from CJ Dodd. After the defense stuffed St. Anthony's on three straight plays, Brett Jones returned the punt for a touchdown and the rout was on. After leading 19-0 at half, Alex Mendoza picked off the first pass attempt of the second half and returned it to the St. Anthony's 20 yard line. CJ Dodd hit Alex for a 20 yard touchdown pass to remove any doubt about the victory.

In the JV contest, the Cougars were down 8-7 in the first half, when Diego Banda took the kickoff the distance for a touchdown to put the Cougars ahead. Banda finished with two touchdowns while Victor Rosas added one.

The Cougars travel to St. Anthony's school Tuesday and Thursday.
